Who Are the BEngali Muslims?

With a population of more than 135 million, the Bengali Muslims of Bangladesh are the largest unreached Muslim people group in the world. Nearly all follow Sunni Islam, and just 0.06% identify as Christian. Although they live in a nation with rich cultural heritage and global influence, the vast majority have never heard a clear presentation of the Gospel.

The Bengali people are known for their deep literary, artistic, and culinary traditions, and they speak Bangla, one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. They are concentrated primarily in Bangladesh, one of the most densely populated countries on earth. Historically, their identity is deeply shaped by Islamic values blended with Bengali cultural pride. Poverty and natural disasters such as flooding affect many rural communities, though there is a strong urban presence as well.

While Bangladesh has religious minorities, Islam dominates public life, and conversion is seen as a betrayal of both faith and family. In this context, following Christ often means isolation and suffering. Yet, the spiritual soil is not barren—there are reports of increasing openness through personal relationships, media, and prayer.

We are privileged to be actively engaged among this people group, alongside others who long to see the hope of Christ take root.

Prayer Points

  • Pray for Gospel access in every part of society

Ask God to open doors for the message of Christ to reach Bengali Muslims through radio, internet, television, and Scripture in the Bangla language—especially in areas where traditional missionary work is restricted.

  • Pray for bold and compassionate witnesses

Lift up the local believers and our teams working among the Bengali. Pray they would be strengthened in faith, protected in hardship, and courageous in sharing Christ with humility and perseverance.

  • Pray for entire households to turn to Christ

Ask the Lord to move through family units, bringing entire households to faith and forming Christ-centered communities where the Gospel can flourish and multiply.

Anchor Verse

“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” — Luke 10:2
