A Herdsman’s Family Finds Christ on the Steppes of Mongolia

Names, locations, and images have been changed to protect the identity of individuals in sensitive regions.

In a remote region of western Mongolia, the gospel is quietly taking root through the testimony of one elderly woman—and now, her entire family is walking a new path with Jesus.

A Move, a Meeting, a Miracle

When Bataa and his wife Uyanga relocated to a small town in the Altai region of Khovd province, they brought more than just their belongings. They carried a quiet hunger for truth. God, in His providence, connected them with an elderly woman in the village who had begun studying the Bible with a visiting believer named Naranbaatar.

This elderly woman’s life changed dramatically. Once burdened by traditional fears and religious obligations, she now radiated peace. Her children, surprised and curious, began asking questions.

One day, her daughter, Solongo, visited and encountered Naranbaatar in person. He explained the hope found in Scripture and how to receive salvation through Jesus Christ. Solongo and her husband—herders who had long struggled with conflict and unanswered questions—embraced the message with open hearts.

We didn’t have peace. But now there’s something new in our home. A presence. A quietness.
— Solongo

From Quarreling to Clarity

Before coming to Christ, the couple’s marriage was marked by arguments, emotional distance, and deep frustration. But something shifted as they read the Bible together. Their hearts softened. The conflict slowed. Even when disagreements came, they returned to Scripture for guidance.

The biggest surprise came through Solongo’s husband. Once indifferent and disengaged, he gave up alcohol and began serving others in their village.

He’s not the same man anymore.
— A local friend
It was unexpected. But we see Jesus is real—He’s changing us.
— Solongo

After continued discipleship with Naranbaatar, the couple chose to be baptized. They now eagerly seek to learn more about Jesus and are praying for more opportunities to share His love with others.

A Quiet Movement with Eternal Impact

What’s happening in this small Mongolian village isn’t isolated. For years, Compel International has been training and equipping local believers across Central Asia to bring the gospel into unreached regions—through wholistic discipleship that integrates Scripture, practical service, and the transformation of families and communities. The work of believers like Naranbaatar is the fruit of these ongoing efforts.

As more families like Solongo’s encounter the truth of God’s Word, they become beacons of hope in spiritually dark places. And through the simple obedience of local disciples, the gospel continues to take root—even on the quiet, windswept steppes of Mongolia.
