“Pray for My Son”: A Mother’s Bold Step of Faith Opens Doors for the Gospel in Bangladesh

Names, locations, and images have been changed to protect the identity of individuals in sensitive regions.

For nearly seven years, young Sami suffered from chronic illness that left his mother, Laila, burdened with fear, exhaustion, and hopelessness. But one simple act of faith—asking for prayer—became the catalyst for healing, renewed belief, and Gospel movement in a spiritually dry community.

A Child’s Suffering, a Mother’s Silence

Laila is a faithful member of a local Care Group in the Uttara area. Her husband works as a cleaner in the city, and together they are raising two children. But their son Sami had been ill for years. He lacked appetite, frequently had fevers, and would cry for long periods of time. Laila sought help from traditional healers again and again, but Sami’s condition only worsened. Eventually, her concern for her son made it difficult for her to participate in the Care Group meetings.

When team members offered to pray for Sami, Laila avoided the conversation, even laughing it off at times. Her pain ran deep, and the idea of healing through prayer seemed too simple—maybe even foolish.

“Pray for my son,” she finally said, holding Sami in her arms.

The Boldness of a Simple Prayer

Then came a breakthrough. During one of the weekly meetings, the local pastor—named Idris*—gently offered to pray for anyone with a need. After the meeting had ended and most were leaving, Laila quietly approached, holding Sami in her arms. “Pray for my son,” she said.

Idris was overjoyed by her courage. He confidently declared, “In the name of Jesus, your son will be healed today.” Hands were joined, prayers lifted, and the group dispersed with hope.

The next week, everything changed. As the team returned to the community, Laila rushed to meet them, smiling. “My son is very healthy now after your prayer,” she said. Her joy overflowed, and she shared her testimony with the whole Care Group. Together, they glorified Jesus.

Through this healing, many began to believe in Jesus Christ.

A Healing That Opened Homes

Sami’s healing didn’t stay a private story. It quickly became a witness to the neighborhood. Doors began to open—literally. Neighbors started inviting the team to their homes, asking for prayer for their own children, for healing, and for peace in family struggles.

This simple act of healing became the seed of faith for many. Now, in a place where people once resisted, a community is opening up to the hope of the Gospel. As more hear the name of Jesus, more are beginning to believe.

Jesus is moving in Bangladesh—through prayer, through testimony, and through the transformation of families like Laila’s.
