New Believers Stand Firm in Rural Laos

Names, locations, and images have been changed to protect the identity of individuals in sensitive regions.

In one rural community in Laos, God is opening hearts to the gospel through healing, transformed lives, and the faithful witness of new believers. Even amid pressure and opposition, families are discovering hope in Christ and beginning to influence those around them.

In a remote village among a tribal community in Laos, local believers recently witnessed the first small group of people publicly place their faith in Jesus Christ.

One of those new believers is a woman we will call “Mai.”

Several months ago, Mai and her family were working near a neighboring farm when a serious conflict broke out between the two households. Not long afterward, Mai became severely ill. Painful bumps spread across her body, and she began experiencing internal bleeding.

Her husband sought help from hospitals and traditional healers, but despite many efforts, her condition did not improve.

Eventually, Mai heard that local Christians were praying for people in the name of Jesus. Desperate for help, she came to ask for prayer.

Believers gathered around her and prayed.

By God’s grace, Mai began recovering.

After we prayed in Jesus’ name, her health started improving, and the whole family saw what God had done.

Mai’s healing deeply impacted her family. As they continued spending time with local believers and learning from Scripture, the entire household decided to follow Christ and was later baptized.

Today, Mai is healthy, and her family has become known in the village for the visible peace and joy in their home.

Their testimony is also influencing others around them.

Because many villagers traditionally worship spirits, some tension and persecution emerged after several families chose to follow Jesus instead. Turning away from old spiritual practices created questions and resistance within the community.

Yet during later visits to the village, ministry leaders saw encouraging signs of change.

The new believers were treating others differently, living with greater kindness and integrity, and demonstrating genuine transformation in daily life. Neighbors who had once been skeptical began noticing the difference.

Some villagers who were initially resistant are now becoming more open to conversations about faith and attending gatherings with believers.

People are seeing the changes in these families and beginning to ask questions.

While the community of believers is still small, local leaders are encouraged by the growing openness to the gospel and the courage of these new Christians as they continue standing firm in their faith.

Their story reflects how God is working through ordinary families, personal testimony, prayer, and transformed lives to draw others toward Christ in places where the gospel has rarely been heard.
