A New Beginning in Mongolia

When Aagii began studying the Bible online during the global pandemic, she couldn’t have imagined how profoundly her life would change—or the freedom that would follow.

Discovering Truth in Isolation

During the global pandemic, many in Mongolia were isolated from family, work, and community life. For Aagii, a mother living abroad with her husband and child, that season also became a turning point. At the suggestion of a friend, she began watching online lessons and exploring the Bible through a method called Discovery Bible Study (DBS). It was simple—just reading Scripture, asking questions, and letting God speak for Himself. But for Aagii, it was also revolutionary.

From the moment I started reading God’s Word through DBS, I began to see what I’d never seen before—truth, love, and hope.
— Aagii

Discovery Bible Study is one of the disciple-making tools that Compel International trains local believers to use globally. Designed for both seekers and believers, DBS opens a pathway to encounter God’s Word in an accessible, community-based format. Rather than rely on outside teachers, participants read a short passage of Scripture and ask a few guiding questions: What does this teach me about God? What does it say about people? How should I respond? Who can I share this with?

It was through this method—shared by someone trained through Compel’s global network—that Aagii encountered the living God for herself.

Hidden Pain, Revealed Hope

At first, DBS awakened spiritual curiosity. But soon, it began uncovering deeper things. God’s Word exposed the false peace in her home and the hidden abuses in her marriage. For years, her husband had been controlling, dishonest, and violent. She had endured in silence, thinking she had no choice. But as she continued to study Scripture, the light of truth began to break through.

In October 2023, Aagii confronted the full reality of her husband’s betrayal and cruelty. During one particularly violent episode, she made a courageous decision. Holding her young son and a small bundle of belongings, she fled her home. Calling the police, she sought safety—for the first time.

I cried as if I had been carved with a knife,” she said. “Pain, grievance, hatred, betrayal—but in that moment, I had one hope: Jesus is with me.

Shelter and Strength

In Mongolia, local laws provide protection for women and children facing domestic violence. Aagii and her son were placed in a temporary shelter, where their basic needs were met and kind-hearted staff helped ease the trauma. Most importantly, her faith began to grow.

She continued reading Scripture through DBS, clinging to God’s promises. In time, she requested a divorce—looking her husband in the eyes and, for the first and last time, standing in her own God-given strength.

Now, Aagii lives in a small but safe apartment provided by the government. Her son attends kindergarten. She is active in a local Mongolian church, regularly listens to the Powerful Seed Christian radio broadcast, and continues to walk closely with Christ.

“I thank You, God the Father and Lord Jesus,” she prayed, “for protecting us from evil, guiding us with Your Word, and encouraging us to follow Your path.”

The Ongoing Work of Multiplication

Aagii’s story is just one of many in Mongolia, where DBS is creating space for Scripture to take root in ordinary lives. From urban neighborhoods to rural herder communities, people are gathering in small groups to ask honest questions, discover truth, and walk in obedience to what they find.

Through Compel International’s commitment to equipping local leaders with disciple-making tools like Discovery Bible Study, Christ-centered communities are beginning to grow in places where the Church once did not exist. It was this global training and network that helped bring the truth of God’s Word into Aagii’s life—at just the right time.
