From Betrayal to Redemption: A Brother’s Journey to Christ in the Muslim World
In regions hostile to Christianity, following Jesus can cost you everything. For one man in the Muslim world, it cost him his brother’s life—and ultimately led him to faith in Christ.
A Family Divided by Faith
Salem grew up in a devout Muslim family. When his younger brother made the unexpected decision to follow Jesus, it sent shockwaves through their home. His brother’s new faith—and especially his boldness in sharing it—brought shame to the family and fear of social repercussions. In their culture, such a conversion was seen as a betrayal not just of religion, but of identity.
One day, a group of men came to Salem. They knew about his brother’s faith and wanted help finding him. Pressured by loyalty to his background and the shame that had gripped his household, Salem agreed.
He led them to the hiding place.
That day, Salem’s brother was killed.
“This should have lifted the shame. But instead, it left a heavy weight around my neck.”
The Spirit Still Moves
Instead of feeling relief, Salem felt haunted. His brother’s last words, his unwavering devotion, and the calm he carried even in danger—these things stayed with him. Salem couldn’t forget. He began quietly searching for answers: Why would someone give their life for Jesus? What did the Bible actually say?
One year after his brother’s death, Salem made a decision that changed everything: he gave his life to Christ.
Today, Salem walks a dangerous road. The same men who took his brother’s life may come looking for him. But he is not alone. Compel International partners are walking alongside him, offering encouragement, prayer, and resources in some of the world’s most difficult places.
“My brother is in heaven,” Salem says with quiet conviction. “And I will join him there one day.”
Bearing Witness in Hard Places
Salem’s story is one of sobering cost—but also of profound hope. In the darkest corners of the world, Christ is still calling disciples to Himself. Through your support, Compel International workers are helping these believers grow in their faith and courageously share the Good News, even when it puts their lives at risk.
Please continue to pray for Salem, and for others like him who follow Jesus in places where doing so means living under threat. And thank you for helping bring the gospel to those who have never heard—even in the world’s hardest-to-reach places.
